NOTICE OF RACE
RACES
Two races are planned, the first will be on Saturday from the Sarasota Big Pass area to the Venice Inlet and the Sunday race will return from Venice to Sarasota. Both will be pursuit races.
RULES
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, 2009-2012.
The rules of West Florida PHRF will apply.
The organizing authority is Sarasota Sailing Squadron.
The event hosts are the Sarasota Sailing Squadron and Venice Yacht Club.
This Regatta is designated Race Category 4.
ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
The regatta is open to all offshore multihulls and self-righting, single hulled, enclosed cabin monohulls that conform to their class rules and hold a current West Florida PHRF handicap rating. (www.westfloridaphrf.org)
Eligible boats may enter by submitting a registration form together with the required fee and an exact copy of a current WFPHRF certificate. If an owner wishes to race but the boat does not have a valid WFPHRF certificate, the Regatta Management may, at its discretion, assign a temporary rating.
FEES
Required fees are as follows: $25 per boat.
Saturday evening Buffet meals can be purchased at skippers meeting or Venice Yacht Club

1800: Registration at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron
1900: Skippers’ Meeting
Saturday, February 26th, 2011
0930: Depart from Sarasota Sailing Squadron to Gulf start via Big Pass.
1130: Warning signal.
1700-2000: After race party. Hosted by Venice Yacht Club.(free Keg Beer, Buffet tickets available @ skippers meeting and VYC)

0900: Depart for Gulf via Venice Inlet
1000: Warning signal.
Thursday March 3rd, 2011
1800hrs; Awards Presentation Party, hosted by Sarasota Sailing Squadron
RACING
The race area will be located offshore between Sarasota New Pass and Venice. One race is scheduled for Saturday and one race on Sunday.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The official sailing instructions will be available at Skippers meeting on Thursday February 24th, 2011.
CLASSES
Expected classes: Spinnaker, Non- spinnaker, True cruising, Pocket cruising and Multihull.
Each cruising boat has the option, to declare that it will be rated with:
i. Full racing Spinnaker
ii. Cruising Spinnaker – receiving s ½ of the Non-Spin Offset (rounded down)
iii. Non-Spinnaker – receiving s full Non-Spin Offset
Spinnaker Declaration – The skipper must make a written declaration at the skippers meeting for each days racing. Based on that declaration:
1. When declaring Spinnaker, up to 3 spinnakers are allowed and maybe any combination of Symmetrical, Asymmetrical and Cruising Spinnakers
2. When declaring the use of a Cruising Spinnaker, the rating will be the boat’s Spinnaker Rating Plus ½ of the “non-spin allowance” (rounded down). Up to 3 cruising spinnakers are allowed and must be tacked to the bow. A whisker pole is allowed, but not to exceed the maximum LP of largest jib for the boat.
3. When declaring Non-Spinnaker no spinnakers of any type are additional sails allowed
REGISTRATION AND SKIPPERS’ MEETING
A representative from each entered boat must attend and pick up a race packet.
THE COURSES
The courses with start and finish, will be distributed at the Skippers meeting.
Course to be sailed will be displayed on the RC boat at the Sarasota and Venice start.
Reverse Handicap Start times will be distributed at the skippers meeting for the 4 possible courses.
SCORING
Boats will be scored in accordance with Appendix “A” of the RRS using the low point system, modified so that all scores will be included.
The WFPHRF RLC will be used.
DOCKAGE
Dockage has been arranged at Venice Yacht Club for Saturday evening.
PRIZES
Prizes will be given as follows: Top finishers in each division. A perpetual trophy will be engraved with the winners’ names and will be housed at SSS.
