Scheduled races for our skippers are on the calendar for Wednesdays, Friday nights and Sunday afternoons.…. Join Jim Barr and the E-Scow sailors on Wednesday afternoons. They usually slide these slippery scows down the ramp shortly after noon and experienced and in-experienced sailors are welcome to crew. If the wind pipes up expect to get a bit damp as these vessels are very close to the water. Some Wednesdays we also have a group of dedicated Flying Scot sailors out on their own course.
On Friday evenings we start the race shortly after 6pm with a pursuit start scheduled for the first “Pursuit” boat as close to 6:15pm as possible. We would like all sailors to sign up on a check-in sheet that should be on the table on the front porch. If you are bringing your boat from a location away from the squadron, try to inform the Race Committee that you are entering and let them know if you are entering the “pursuit” race or the single start “class” race. Listen to your VHF radio and check in with the RC to confirm the course and distance. Bill Johnson has provided a start time based on you PHRF handicap for each of the Friday night courses. The NOR, courses and start times are here. We offer both a “Pursuit” start as well as a “Single Class” start in an effort to get as many participants out on the course as possible.
A Sunday afternoon series is scheduled weekly with a 1pm start (or as close to it as possible). These races are a mix of both single start events as well as some that are pursuit start races. We currently are about to finish our Spring Series and a Summer Series will start Sunday May 16th. Each of these series consists of six to eight races and we will be using the high point scoring system so that when we only have a few entries others will not be penalized as much. The way the system works is that if we only had six entries on a particular Sunday, 1st place would get six points, 2nd place would be awarded 5 points and so on.
The Sarasota Bay Cup is hosted by the Bird Key Yacht Club and is scheduled for Saturday, May 8th. Entry and registration information is available here.
This annual event is a “pursuit” race and I hope we can have at least twenty SSS sailors out on the course. There will NOT be Sunday Spring Series race scheduled for the next day, Sunday May 9th. Take your family out and enjoy the bay for a day!!!!!
The final results for the
Motley BOTY races sponsored by West Florida PHRF are still being finalized at this time…. .. Thanks are in order to Peter Robinson who served as the WFPHRF coordinator, scorer and primary RC for this race series during this past year..

Great sailing SSS Skippers!!!!
Don’t miss out on another great evening of sailing, smoozing and just having a good time. Our first “Jack Attack” event brought out seventeen sailing ships with over 60 people enjoying a visit to Marina Jacks. The possibility looks good for a “complimentary” captain’s beverage ticket to be given out to all who compete. Get your crew ready for Friday night…..
Enjoy the Bay,,,, sail away soon!!!!. Capt’n Blew Bayou
