Cherry Pie Regatta

Calling all race fans! This month's regatta will be sailed on February 14th, with the skipper's meeting at noon and a 1:30 pm start time. Peter Robinson will be running the races, and he tells me he has the traditional pie tins to give as awards. Speaking of tradition, Christmas caroling is alive and well in our neighborhood, and the song "White Christmas" has always been one of my favorites! So you're probably wondering, "What does any of this have to do with sailing?" Evidently, Irving Berlin composed this Academy Award winning song for the 1942 film "Holiday Inn," starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. The plot revolves around Jim (Bing Crosby) who plans to turn his farm into an entertainment venue called "Holiday Inn", which will only be open on holidays. Taking inspiration from this movie, our own Pat Murphy came up with the idea for our monthly regattas. Our squadron is rich in tradition, and our monthly regattas are a large part of that.
