Deep into the E-Scow Season

As our snowbirds depart for the north, E-Scow racing on Wednesday afternoon’s begins to slow down.  Yet, Wednesday, May 20th 2015 saw five E-Scows racing off the club with the weather mark in the cove by the Manatee sign, an offset mark, and starting/leeward marks near the bridge in shifty northwesterly winds at about 10 to 12 knots.  Generally, it paid off going left into the cove with major lifts to the weather mark.  We held four twice around races, with optional gates to leeward and 3 minute whistle starts.  Given the varying conditions, boats behind always had a chance to overcome the leaders.

Richard Elsishans in Infinity skippered with Michael Lee and Janeen Rosas; Ted Weihe in Bodacious raced with Valdek Kwasniewski (who skipped one race) with Jerry Wheeler; Bob Blomquist skippered E-Go with Kathryn Hosey and Brian Regan; Bill Nolden skippered in Armee with Chris Herdrich and Dick Sherman; Doug Dearden raced Rev It Up with JP Gorgue and Dave Peterson, also shifting off the helm.  At the social beer and nuts get-together afterwards, the fleet decided to arrive at 4 PM and beginning racing at 5 PM next Wednesday to beat the heat.   We encourage more SSS members to enjoy E-Scowing since we prefer four to a crew, and can bring out more boats with more participants.
