E-Scows Race Avoiding Thunderstorm

E-Scows Race Avoiding Thunderstorms

Despite some thunderstorms that dissipated before reach SSS, four E-Scows had a delightful day of racing off the club Wednesday evening June 22nd.  The wind was from 300 degrees (WNW) instead of the usual sea breeze at about 3 to 6 knots with gusts of up to 8 knots.

We held five races (3 one lap, and 2 two lap).  We kept the starting line short to keep boats close going off the line.  Going left paid off with some lifts to the weather mark.  Bodacious dominated the racing with the most wins, skippered by Ted Weihe (3 races) and Valdek Kwasniewski (2 races) with Jerry Wheeler on the jib.  They were getting off the line well and acting as the whistle start boat.

Synergy was skippered by “Big” Dave Petersen with crew of Dickie Sherman, Thomas Fugina and recovering Doug Dearden.  Newbie was skippered by Bill Kimble (who I put in the wrong boat in my last report) with Richard Elsishans and Jennifer whose last name I did not get on her first outing in an E.  Sweet Thing was skippered by Bill Meissenheimer, “never own a boat” Bill Pretyka and Will Bither.

E-Scows racing this deep into the summer season is a first, but we do need more crew members to be able to continue our racing momentum.
