Jeff Penfield Memorial Regatta Report
What a great weekend we had Nov. 3rd & 4th for the Flying Scot Florida District Regatta at the sailing squadron. We had 24 Scots racing in beautiful (maybe a little on the light side) conditions. If you were there I'm sure you had a good time if you were not there, plan on this weekend for next year. It is one of our best weekends of the year and should not be missed. Thank you and congrats to all that volunteered to make this regatta a fun time for all.
Drumstick Regatta race report
This year the Drumstick Regatta served as the first race of our season series. As we left the dock the breeze filled in from the north to a steady 12-15kts for the racing. We raced on a line with the E Scows and some PHRF boats. Peter Robinson sent us on 2 races (winward- leward- winward) of about 3 miles each. We had eight Scots racing and as usual there were lots of moments of glory to spread through the fleet.
Dec 1 Race Report
Another beautiful day of racing on Sarasota Bay for our series race day. Breeze was about 8 - 12 out of the northeast. Team Eightball served as RC for the 8 Scots that ventured out. We had 3 races and some good post race chatter. Dominating the day, winning 2 of the races was Leprechan. Also Garnering daily awards for 2nd and 3rd were Mojito and Serenity. Serenity also led the charge for the challenger division followed by Braveheart and Against The Wind.
The Flying Scot Midwinter Regatta will again be hosted by the Sarasota Sailing Squadron (SSS) this coming March. SSS first hosted the sanctioned event in 2011 as part of an alternating-year commitment with Southern Yacht Club. Sixty-seven boats participated in 2011, with nearly all of those promising to return, so we expect another strong turnout in 2013.
Things are good with Fleet 36. New boats are joining us, racing on Sarasota Bay is great. What could be better?
Tip of the day: A good start is not necessarily the perfect start but it is a start in the front row with clear air.
