We kicked off 2014 with a few good races last Saturday. The skies were overcast and some sweat shirts and jackets were worn to fight off the winter conditions but the winds were ideal. Team Wind Up Toy (Tom, Winny and crew) handled the RC duties and sent us on 3 good races using the easterly 8-12 kt breeze. Racing was very close. Serenity claimed the challenger division honors. After the 3 races, Leprechaun and Patchwork Princess were tied but the first race win by Patchwork Princess broke the tie for second place. Eightball sailing consistently held on for the daily win. Firth Lady, Against The Wind and Mojito were all pushing hard. There is a lot going on this month. Next weekend is a racing clinic at the squadron. Richard E. has put a good program together. Let me know if you are planning to participate. Richard can also use some help on the RC and support boats. If you would like to help out let me or Richard know. Our next scheduled race is Jan 18th, (Snowbird Regatta, always a good time). The following week is the closest Flying Scot road trip/district regatta at Port Charlotte. After a slow start things are in high gear now. We held a fleet vote following the races last weekend to host the 2017 Flying Scot Midwinter Regatta. (We are already committed to the 2015 regatta. Those present voted enthusiastically yes.
