In a run up to the third MC Series on Saturday, December 20, ten MCs raced ten times on short courses with three minute whistle starts on Friday afternoon, December 5. The wind was from the east and backed about 10 degrees during the racing. There was often a crowd of MCs at the weather pin, and going downwind often favored one side or the other. We got lots of practice with a short starting line where hitting it going fast was important to punch out ahead of the fleet. The top MC sailors provided tips and encouragement so that all of us are improving on the race course.
We were privileged to have MC National Commodore Bob Cole, down from Corning New York, to race with us. The word is getting out among the MC fleets that Sarasota offers some of the best scow racing anywhere. We will be hosting the MC Cup Sarasota on March 7-8, 2015, a week prior to the MC Mid-Winters in Eustis, Florida. We expect to have national MC champions competing with us.
We continue to build our fleet with two additional MCs that Jeff Nicholas towed from Iowa. We now have over 20 MCs at the club, and several are available for purchase or to lend out. SSS members should give Richard Elsishans a call (941 914 0516 or firstname.lastname@example.org) if you want to try racing a MC, or are interested in buying one. Our schedule is posted at the club, but basically we have practice races on Friday afternoons and a score series on Saturdays through April.
