  • Devall King passing: Devall came to our Club in the late 60s and was active and made a significant impact from the start. Most of you may know him from his many donated, finely crafted, model boats that adorn the office and Club House. You may not know, Devall served as our Club Commodore in 1976 and implemented ideas that have served to create and sustain our amazing Club and organization. Of note Devall implemented the charging for boat storage on the lease hold and coercing a less involved Pat Murphy to serve as Club secretary and later as our first Manager. Devall will be dearly missed. January 25th from 3-6pm there will be a memorial service for Devall King
  • 29 New Memberships in Jan. 2014, setting a new high for January. With two weeks to go we have surpassed the record 2012 new membership number by 3.
  • With the extraordinary help of past Commodore Jennings, current Commodore Huber and we addressed the Sarasota City Commissioners this month. David Jennings compiled and created a superb Power Point presentation for the Club. John and Craig presented the narrative of our Club and its function and activities in 2013. The presentation was well received and seemed to advance our relationship with the City/ “Land Lord and community. Thanks again David.

Maintained & Maintenance

  • Thank you to Ron Pletsch and his band of volunteers who are making solid progress on the 19 floating docks set for replacement. More hands are welcomed and the signup sheet is in the Club House.
  • We’ve called for inspection on the “Education Building” and will be utilizing that area for storage in the very near future. Some interesting ideas have come out of our organizations complete lack of a class room and we will be sharing some solutions to our organizations short fall very soon.
  • You’ll see some yearend decorations as the movement on the land storage has continued as we take in more vessels, arrange the field to best accommodate the boats by size, and mark the Dead and Abandon vessels for auction. The auction process is no less than 90 days so look for the notice in April 2014.

Events & Activities

  • Early on into 2014 we've enjoyed Chamber style weather and robust club events and activities. Recently the Club hosted the “New Dock” Ribbon Cutting and New Years Eve Social, the 2014 Hang over Regatta, the always active Scots and Scows, the MC Scow One Design Race Clinic weekend, the 2014 Snowbird regatta, the Passage Makers Pot Luck dinner, and around the corner the Fireside Chat & Club Chili Championship Jan. 31st.
