Happy New Year.

Once again Cassandra & Crew ended 2012 with a bang at the SSS. 100 members and guest rung in the New Year at the Club with some great live music and Merriment. The next Morning everyone shook off the “cobwebs” and headed out for the “Hangover Regatta”. 36 Boats competed and at the end of the Day, Charles Weiss, Rudolf Reinecke, Ken McKinney, Jim Barr, Bob Twinem, Donna Hillmyer, Rita Steele & Jon Dowd all took top honors.

Great winter weather and events as of late has provided noteworthy reasons to visit the Club. Please join us this weekend as the Rondar Company will offer a demo day on their sexy Viper 640. Also on Saturday, Race Captain Herb Larrabee will host a “Racer’s Form” to gather input from the fleets and racers in an effort to tailor the 2013 racing around your specific likes and needs. Sunday the 6th SBYA & Sailmonster will bring the 3rd race of the series and first of 2013 to the Squadron.

In late January the organization will be selling off some of the acquired inventory that has been left to us from loving and generous members. The boats, trailers and equipment will be listed on the notice board. Please contact the office if some or all of these items catch your eye.

Next up: Snowbird regatta Jan. 19th – SSS Work Party Jan. 19th – Walter Wyatt Memorial Jan. 20 - Fireside Chat & Club Chili Championship Jan. 26th.

Remember it’s never too early to volunteer. I realize we are only a few days into 2013, but the first quarter of the year is packed full of regattas and club projects. As a volunteer organization we ask every membership to provide 8 hours of volunteerism a year. This aspect of our Club is extremely important in two ways. 1-It keeps the cost of membership, storage etc. at an unparallel value. 2- It is one of the “measurables” the city looks at every year to judge the health and sustainability of our lease. When you volunteer please record your volunteer hours. And remember that Race Committee hours are volunteer hours. If you would like to spend the day on the water and get credit for volunteering contact the office or Herb Larrabee.

All the best to you and yours in ’13.

Craig

Candy, I will be returning to Sarasota from Pittsburgh next week and will be bringing our J-42 down to the Squadron. I am new to the area and may be available to participate in the snowbird race on January 19th if you would like to crew that day. Please let me know if you and your husband would like to get out onto the bay.

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Candace,
Our club office is open 7 days a week from 9 till 6pm. Please feel free to stop bye. From this it seems you’ve found our Web Site and our Club Calendar is open to the public. Please feel free to join us and “kick the tires” at any of our up coming events. Also, you may want to try the Sunday races. They are very casual races and welcoming to new and non members interested in sailing. The sailors are regularly accepting of new faces in need of a ride. We look forward to seeing you on the Bay.

Hi Craig. My husband and I are returning to Sarasota after our first visit there in 2009. At that time we were very interested in your club but unfortunately there wasn’t much going on during our stay (I think it was early Feb) We are going to visit again next week and would love to offer to crew for somebody who is involved in a club race. We race our own C&C 99 with a crew of 5 in CT on Long Island Sound. WE’d love to find an active sailing community that would draw us to FL in the winter. Any guidance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. We are coming to Sarasota Tuesday Jan 8 and Leaving Tuesday Jan 15. Thanks! Candy McGovern
