As Sarasota’s longest running sporting event the Labor Day regatta is a true testament of what a group of like minded people can achieve when they come together and shore up a mission. A celebration of sailing diversity and a chance to test your skills, Labor Day weekend has served for decades as the must attend Summer Sailing event in the South. The 2013 Labor Day Regatta was fantastic. A BIG Thank you to the Hillmyers for an extraordinary effort and excellent event! And thank you, to all the volunteers who contributed so much! I could spend a couple thousand words and not express the gratitude and pride I felt as the manager of the “Worlds Greatest Sailing Club” and I owe it all to those who participated and invested their time. Thank you!
A quick regroup from the Labor Day festivities and we held the first SYS-SSS Pizza social. Commodore Jennings, 2 years ago, half joked about how cool it would be to have a pizza oven to make fresh pies in the evenings. A little Squadron ingenuity later and a master pizza maker in our membership and Voila, we have amazing made to order pizzas. A very tasty and very fun way to mix within our Club and chat with its future.
Please join us for the Sept. 21st Movie night at the Club and the Sept. 28th Club Poker run followed immediately that evening with the first SSS Oktoberfest celebration.
Quickly I would like to remind all of the, not so far off, October regatta slate. October 12th is the 3rd and final race in the Sarasota SUP Series; October 17 thru the 26th we’ll host the 2013 Buzzelli Multihull Rendezvous and F-18 Americas. Both are sure to bring and provide great sailing and competition to Sarasota and our unique organization.
Please keep your eye on the website calendar for the many sailing and social opportunities. I’m looking forward to seeing you around the “Club”.
