Women on the Water – Lots of Wind, Lots of Women…

The Squadron is a popular place this Spring!  It’s great to see all our friends and the visiting sailors enjoying our club.  The Luffing Lassies have been hard at work volunteering for the recent Flying Scot Midwinters, One Design Midwinters and Albacore Internationals, but we took a break from volunteering this Thursday and hosted an invitational regatta of our own.  A total of five different Florida Women’s Sailing Association clubs joined in this Thursday’s interclub regatta.  Guests included women from all over the west coast of Florida representing the Dinghy Dames, Mainsheet Mamas, Bow Chasers, Bitter Ends and of course our very own Luffing Lassies.

Over 30 boats sailed in the regatta, which may have been just one morning but seemed to cover all possible wind conditions.   We started with hardly any wind at all and everyone setting up for light air.  By the second race, though, the wind steadily built and included 20 knot gusts that blasted down the course.

Thanks to all the Lassies and the SSS office who worked so hard to make this a fun event.  Our guests raved about the hospitality, talking about not only what a beautiful spot we have but what incredible value we get for our money here.  It’s always nice when your guests feel they had a great day of racing and also a good deal.  We couldn’t agree more.

Top finishers of the day were:

1st –  Lynn Randall of the Dinghy Dames
2nd – Diane Banyard of the Luffing Lassies
3rd – Dottie Schell of the Luffing Lassies

1st – Ann Carol of the Bitter Ends
2nd – PJ Summerfield of the Mainsheet Mamas
3rd – Gail Seidman of the Luffing Lassies

– Penny Durham, Luffing Lassies Captain
